Christian Series, The Chosen Review
I try to be mindful of what I consume as far as content. I haven’t always been successful at this, though. Sometimes I’ve found myself watching things that weighed me down and added to the sorrow I was already swimming in due to the woes of life.
As of late, I like to watch and read things that inspire me or add value to my life. I am constantly aspiring to grow, so I often feel the need to consume things that will help me achieve this.
If you’re like me, I’m sure you know it’s not the easiest thing to find good, wholesome television shows or a series that isn’t filled with content that doesn’t align with your convictions.
Recently I was introduced to 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐧. It’s a modern-day depiction of the life of Christ through the eyes of those who followed Him. Now, I’ve seen many Bible movies in my lifetime. Growing up, it was not uncommon for us to watch movies on 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝟷𝟶 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴, 𝘚𝘢𝘮𝘱𝘴𝘰𝘯, 𝘋𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘎𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘩 and many of the other phenomenal Bible characters that we as Christians have grown to love. It was always so exciting to do this with my siblings.
You see, we grew up in a home where we took it seriously to absorb literature and content that exhibited the life of Christ. It was just as important for us to manifest this in our own lives. As you can imagine, seeing these movies really was a big deal in our home! We felt it was very relatable. We studied the scriptures daily, prayed, and Church, well, that seemed to be our second home.
For those who don’t know, my father is blind and has never seen us physically (he lost his sight at age 14) but is an outstanding man of faith! Despite his blindness, he made sure we were taught the word of God. We’d listen to the Bible on a cassette player at night while we slept. Also, my father would read us bedtime stories from his Braille Bible. Ahhh, these moments and memories from my childhood, I’ll cherish forever. Ok, I know I took a brief walk down memory lane on ya, but now let’s get back to Christian Series 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐧…
When I was introduced to this 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴, I was blown away with the first season! Oh my goodness – the acting is great! The stories are told with such conviction, in a good way. I know many people cringe when they hear that word, but it’s good to be compelled to do good. I literally found myself watching the scenes and feeling as If I was there and Jesus was speaking directly to me! I won’t spill all the tea….as they would say, because some of you haven’t watched it yet, but you MUST!

The episodes were soooo beautifully illustrated. My favorite from Season 1 is the episode when Mary Magdalene was delivered and healed. It had me almost in tears. All the scriptures about her life and love for Jesus were bubbling over in my heart as I watched the scene where she met Jesus and had no clue it was Christ……THE CHOSEN ONE.
I am so thrilled to now be an avid watcher of 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐧. It’s a beautiful thing to be able to watch a series like this with my children. My husband and I are both ordained ministers and watching these shows is somewhat nostalgic. It takes me back to my childhood when all 5 of my siblings and my mom and dad would sit around the television and watch the Bible stories literally come to life before our eyes. Now that was roughly 30 years ago! Oh boy…am I giving away my age?? Lol
If so, that’s quite alright.
So much innovation has taken place, and now, instead of only being able to look at a show like this on the television, you can watch it anytime through 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘯 𝘢𝘱𝘱!
Yep, you heard me right….”it’s an app for that”.
“Look at God!!” That’s a little modern church lingo!
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐧 is the first multi-season television series about the life of Christ. Directed by Dallas Jenkins (The Resurrection of Gavin Stone) and distributed by Angel Studios, The Chosen has managed to become the world’s largest crowdfunded TV series of all time. Now that’s incredible!
You, my friend, can watch the series on your smartphone or any of your electronic devices once the FREE app is downloaded. Okay, now, who wouldn’t want to binge-watch JESUS?!!! Come on people, let’s be real…… that’s binge worthy!
Why consume a bunch of foolishness that will not cause you to grow in your walk with God when there is an opportunity to build your faith and fill your mind with the things of God? With all of the turmoil, chaos and discontentment in our world,we need something like 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐧 to redirect us and keep us on the straight and narrow.
If you’ve lost hope, or feeling a bit overwhelmed with life, I encourage you to start your journey by watching this amazing series. I believe with my whole heart that it will change your perspective.
The BEST thing about the show is that it sticks to the scriptures. They allow the context to remain with some embellishments in terms of how they convey the stories. I like that they don’t take away from the integrity of God’s word with “Hollywood” theatrics and wisdom from this world. It’s a wholesome, liberating and life-changing series that I’m encouraging EVERYONE to watch. I’m so excited for season 2! Download the app now to watch the show for free, you won’t be disappointed!!
When was the last time you watched or read a Bible story?
